FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Using the editor
Do our staff need technical skills to use the editor?
No. Staff fill in forms (a game's date and opponent, a player's name and photo, a news headline) and the Engine builds the pages. If you can fill in an online form, you can keep the site current. The User Guide walks through every task.
How do changes get onto our public site?
Staff save changes in the editor, then select Publish. The whole site is rebuilt with everything saved, usually in about a minute, and the editor confirms when it's live. Nothing reaches the public site until someone publishes, so staff can prepare several changes and put them live together.
How do we know what hasn't been published yet?
The editor shows a badge, such as 3 unpublished changes, and the Publish window lists each change before you confirm. The Home page also flags past games that still need a score.
Can I see my changes before they go live?
Yes. Save your changes, then select Preview beside Publish. In about a minute a new tab shows your whole site as it would look if you published now, with a Preview: not live banner. Nothing on the public site changes. When it looks right, select Publish and choose Publish your preview to put exactly that version live. Previewing is optional; you can always publish directly.
Who can see my preview?
Only your school's staff, signed in to your school's editor. A forwarded preview link won't open for anyone else, and search engines never list previews, so it's safe to stage embargoed news such as a coaching hire. To show a colleague, ask them to sign in and select Preview themselves.
Why did "Publish your preview" disappear?
Someone saved a change after the preview was built, so the preview no longer matches what's saved. Select Preview again to check the latest version, or publish what's saved now. A preview older than 60 days also has to be previewed again before it can be published.
My preview link stopped working. What do I do?
Preview access lasts 8 hours. Select Preview again in the editor, or open the Publish window and choose Open the preview again. If no tab opens at all, your browser blocked the pop-up: allow pop-ups for your editor's address.
Can we post a score from a phone?
Yes. The editor works on phones and tablets. Open the game on the schedule, select Add Score, enter the final score, then publish.
Can we load a whole roster or schedule at once?
Yes. Download the roster or schedule as a CSV spreadsheet, fill it in with Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets, and upload it. Every row is checked and shown (new, updated, or a problem to fix) before anything is saved, and nothing is ever deleted by an import.
What if someone makes a mistake?
Nothing is public until it's published, so most mistakes are caught in the editor. The editor asks before anything destructive, such as removing a sport (which hides it rather than deleting it, so it can be restored) or starting a new season (which can be undone for 24 hours).
Scores, stats and seasons
Which stats software does the Engine work with?
Box-score XML files exported from PrestoStats and DakStats. Uploading one adds the score, team totals and every player's line, and updates season stats automatically. Staff confirm which scheduled game the file belongs to before it's saved. Schools without stats software can enter just the final score.
Which sports have stats?
Basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, field hockey, volleyball, lacrosse, football and ice hockey. Any other program can still have a schedule, roster, coaches, news, sponsors and a recruiting page.
What happens at the end of a season?
Your site administrator starts the new season for each sport. Last season's schedule, roster and stats stay on the site as history, the roster and coaches can be copied forward as a starting point, and the change can be undone for 24 hours. The Administrator Manual covers it step by step.
A box score says it can't find our team. What do we do?
Stats software sometimes spells a school differently. Your site administrator can set the team code (for each sport) or the team name used in stats files (in School Settings) to match the file.
Accounts and security
Who can sign in to the editor?
Only staff your site administrator asks Testament to set up, each with their own account and password. There's no shared password, no public sign-up and no student-facing login.
How do we add or remove a staff member's access?
Your site administrator contacts Testament support with the person's name and work email. Staff reset their own passwords with Forgot your password? on the sign-in page.
Does the Engine store student records?
No. The Engine holds public content only: schedules, results, rosters, coaches, news and similar. There are no student accounts, and no grades, eligibility, academic or medical records, and there's no reason for them to exist in the system.
Your site
Where is our site hosted?
Your published site lives in a dedicated cloud account for your school, served over a global content delivery network. Public pages are static files, so there's no database behind them to slow down or take down on game day.
Can we change how the site looks?
Yes. Choose a theme, set your colors and upload your logos in School Settings. A theme change takes effect the next time you publish; your content, pages and links stay the same.
Can visitors find past seasons?
Yes. Each sport's schedule, roster and stats keep every past season, and visitors choose the season they want.
Where can we get help?
Start with the User Guide and Administrator Manual in the Guides panel. For anything else, contact Testament; include your school, the page you were on, and any message the editor showed.
